In Transit to Istanbul

The flight from Tampa to Frankfurt is about nine hours and not nearly as painful as it sounds!  There is more legroom than I expected and the two seats next to me are vacant!  In my head I give one of them to the person at the other end of the row;  but that still allows me to put my backpack under the seat in front of my vacant one.

We’ve only been in the air about twenty minutes when we’re given water and pretzels and it isn’t long after that when dinner is served!  I’ve been doing so well on my diet and I think I can continue;  but I reckoned without the butterfly crackers and the delicious fudgy brownie!  I did manage to leave the rice from the chicken teriyaki and most of the roll that came with the Colby cheese.

There are lots of movies to choose from and I finally get to see “Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood”, which deserves all the hype.  And there is also “Tully” with it’s interesting plot twist and Charlize Theron, and the wonderful “The Wife” with Glenn Close and Jonathan Pryce.

In between a couple of those I curl up on my two seats and “rest my eyes”.  Good thing I do yoga so I can twist sufficiently to fit in.  It’s a bit like a Wounded Pigeon” asana.

Shortly before landing, breakfast is served.  A spinach wrap, fresh fruit and a granola bar.  I think I’d benefit from caffeine, so I opt for the coffee.  I never learn!  I did manage to drink it all, even though it took a while!

The only oddity on the flight occurred when the young mother across the aisle from me dropped her coffee and it splashed, basically, all over me!  I hope that the aroma of coffee either fades quickly or is an aphrodisiac!

We greet the dawn as we land in Germany.

I owe the Frankfurt Airport an apology.  I think they’ve revamped their international section.  Although you still have to get around by shuttle bus, we were directed to our connecting flights without ever having to claim our luggage or go through security or passport control or anything!  As a result I get to my new gate with three hours to spare!  I even found a helpful staff member to assure me that my gate hadn’t changed, since it was too early for it to show up on the boards.
