Going back to reality The alarm goes off at 3:30 and we’re downstairs well before my ride’s scheduled arrival time of five o’clock. Sigh. I’m so glad that Ammar came down to keep me company. His flight isn’t for another eight or nine hours, so it was pointless for him to go the airport at this ghastly hour. It sure is a lonely trip in the dark, in the back of that big van. However, the actual airport experience is quite simple, and the Duty Free shops go on for miles! It is interesting, though, that when I finally get to my gate, it is closed. Each gate is enclosed by glass walls and there is no entry until the security and airline personnel are on the scene. Those of us who are congenitally early wind up sitting on the floor awaiting entry. There are three layers of passport/boarding pass control and then they check out carry ons and swab electronics and our bodies! It’s all politely done and non-...
